Schedule and Guide

Those who have graduated, or expect to graduate, from an overseas university may apply to study at a KyotoU Graduate School as a regular or research student. The application process includes a preliminary review by the University's Admissions Assistance Office (AAO).

For March 2020 or earlier admission, a preliminary review by AAO is required of graduates of Chinese, Hong Kong, and Taiwanese universities. This requirement will be extended to graduates of all overseas universities for April 2020 or later admission. Details will be posted on the KyotoU website.

Notes

(1) Career-track admission applicants should currently belong to a company/organization/institute and intend to continue their vocational status after enrollment to the graduate school

(2) Thesis-track admission applicants should have completed most of their doctoral research and be ready to submit their doctoral thesis within approximately a year after enrollment to the graduate school

(3) All applicants including native speakers of English will be required to exhibit one of the following on the first day of the Entrance Examination: 1) the original score record of TOEFL-iBT (preferred), 2) the original score record of TOEFL-PBT, 3) the original official score certificate or certificate of achievement of TOEIC or TOEIC Listening & Reading (after October 2016) (Secure/Public testing program) or 4) the original test report form of IELTS (Academic module).

(4) As for the Eligibility requirements for the MEXT scholarships in GSGES applicants, refer to the Guideline for special admission for doctoral program examination.

Eligibility requirements for MEXT scholarship program for the doctoral program 

Eligible applicants for enrollment in April 2020 can also apply for the MEXT scholarships in GSGES doctoral program. Up to five applicants for the MEXT scholarships in GSGES who have passed the IEMP admission process will then be nominated to the MEXT scholarships in GSGES for final selection of scholarship recipients. FIVE applicants will be selected by MEXT. Applicants will be informed of the results of scholarship selection at the end of June.

Scholarship coverage

1) Monthly stipend of approximately 145,000 yen

2) Economy class travel expenses to and from Japan
(Airfare for return travel will be provided only after successful completion of the study program.)

3) Admission and tuition fees

Eligibility requirements for the MEXT scholarships in GSGES applicants

(1) Nationality

Applicants must be from a country which has diplomatic relations with the Japanese government.

(2) Study experience in Japan

If applicants have experience of studying at any Japanese universities as a recipient of MEXT Scholarship, they must be away from Japan for at least 3 years. Students who are currently studying in Japan cannot apply for this program.

(3) Age

Applicants must be under 35 years of age as of April 1, 2020

(4) Current status

Applicants must not be active members of the military.

(5) Other scholarships

Applicants who are expected to receive a scholarship from any other organizations including a governmental organization in his/her country of origin will not be accepted as a grantee of MEXT Scholarship.

(6) Duplication of applications

Applicants must not apply for a MEXT Scholarship through any other graduate schools or universities
