Since Tsinghua and Kyoto Universities the Cooperative Research and Education Center for Environmental Technology (CRESET) at the Shenzhen campus, Tsinghua University, in October 2005, supporting staff may now stay at this site and use it as a base. Collaborative research and educational activities have been progressively developed during the EML and GCOE project.

On September 6, 2016, the 4th stage kick-off Symposium of CRESET was held at the Kyoto University Katsura campus. Prof. Masao Kitano (Vice president of Kyoto University), Prof. Takayuki Kitamura (Dean of GSE), Prof. Shigeo Fujii (GEGES), Prof.

Hiroaki Tanaka (Director of CRESET) and Assoc. Prof. Kazuyuki Oshita (GSGES) participated in this symposium.

On previous day of this symposium, Core members of Shenzhen campus, Tsinghua University was visited in GSGES and Prof. Masao Kitano, and discussed the possibility of double degree program between GSGES and Tsinghua University.
